Why use WordPress?
Posted in: WordPress
Yesterday I defined the word blog, I now start introducing WordPress.org. WordPress.org is an open-source software that is used for blogging platform. There are other blogging platforms to choose from, such as MovableType, PMachine, Greymatter, B2Evolution, TextPattern to name a few. But I prefer using WordPress.org.
WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
You might be confused, I want you guys to know that there are 2 types of WordPress platform. These are WordPress.com and WordPress.org. Here are the Pros and Cons of each.
WordPress.com offers free blog hosting built from WordPress software. You can use your own domain name by paying $15 per annum or just use their free subdomain using “*.wordpress.com”.
WordPress.com Pros
- free hosted
- it’s easy to modify
- no worries on blog setup, backup, security and upgrades because they take care of technical stuffs for you
WordPress.com Cons
- when it comes to designing your own blogsite, you will be limited in choosing from their available list of themes
- They don’t allow blog monetizing
WordPress.org allows you to download their open-source software for free and install it in your website provided that you already have hosting service.
WordPress.org Pros
- can install themes and plugins you like
- you can make money online by adding adsense and other affiliates
- you can customize your own website
- you can use your own domain
WordPress.org Cons
- Need to cash out for several things.
- buy your own domain, which is $9.95 per annum
- look for good web host, roughly $5-10 / a month
- you have to setup, backup, secure and upgrade your blog on your own
- requires an in-depth technical knowledge to perfectly run the software
Don’t panic. I may not pay your domain and host your site but I will find you a cheaper and if possible FREE web services. Fair enough huh? Not only that I will even post a step by step procedure in setting up your own blog. No worries about technical stuff, I’ll be your techie guru. Stay tuned for more
