Posted in: WordPress
Creating your own blog is fun and addictive. If you are not that expose and experience in blogosphere, you would not think it’s that big of a deal which platform you choose or whether you have your own domain name. That used to be my first perception when I started blogging way back 3 years ago though I’m not that serious blogger yet not until mid last year when I bought my domain. I’m telling you now, you need to get your own and no regrets. Don’t hook yourself with many free services that let you use their subdomain, such as wordpress.com, typad.com, blogspot.com. Don’t worry about the price because later I’ll help you find where to buy the cheapest domain in the web.
If you are really serious in blogging get ready for the next step by giving your blog it’s own domain name. Domain now a days are very cheap ranges from $1.99 to $9, it’s really easy on the budget right? There’s no reason not to bag one.
If you are still not yet convince read the article 10 Benefits To Owning Your Domain Name. Are you ready to get your domain?, read the 12 Rules for Choosing the Right Domain Name to help you get started. We are not yet done here you have to take into consideration to go over this write-up 10 Things You Must Know Before Registering Your Domain Name. I want to hightlight #5: Privacy Services Piracy, I would strongly suggest to buy a domain with Private Registration because all important information such as your name, address and phone number will be remain confidential or else expect spammers, telemarketers, data miners and anyone else who might misuse your personal data.
I believe I have already influenced you to get your own domain. Here’s a list and short review where to get a cheap and free domain name.
Paid Domain:
GoDaddy: $9.99 - They are very famous when it comes to buying a domain. They accept Paypal Payments. Private Registration has a separate fee of $8.99/yr. Duration to use the domain, ranges from 1 to 2 hours. A total payment of $18.98/yr.
Yahoo:$1.99/yr - This is the cheapest among all. But what is the catch? If you are going to use their best deal link you are only allowed to buy through credit card, paypal is not allowed. Wait time is about an hour before you can use the domain (based on my experience). You can only register 1 domain for new customers. No Private Registration, if you want your domain be secured just add $9. Total payment of $10.99 for the first year. Succeeding year is worth $18.99. Frankly I don’t suggest registering your domain here, I got a lot of spam emails since I registered my domain with them and even my YM I continuously receiving a lot of spam messages when I registered without private registration.
1&1: $6.99/yr - They are accepting Paypal Payments. You’ll pay $6.99/yr following after. Private Registration is free. The wait time based on my friend’s experience Deric with the company as he waited for 2 days and just cancelled the order because their customer service is taking a long time to respond and activate his domain. One of his domain is already registered in 1&1, we are not really sure on what happened on his second attempt but after 3 days they replied but Deric already bought the domain from another company. Overall, its better to buy a domain from them in a long run because the renewal is almost the same price.
Netfirms: $5.95/yr - They are not currently accepting Paypal. You need to have a credit card to buy one. Private Registration is free. If you are a new customer of Netfirms you need to wait for about 24 hours to buy another domain from them because they will need to go through with the account information you submitted and verify if your credit card is valid. One unique service they offer is that, If you’ve registered the wrong name by mistake Netfirms makes it easy to get it fixed for free. Simply contact their Billing team within 48 hours and they’ll have it corrected. Just a reminder, the domain will renew at $9.95 per year thereafter and you are limited to five $5.95 domain names per customer only. In my experience, I just recently bought a new domain from them. In just seconds after I checked out my order I can use it immediately, isn’t that perfect? No wait time at all.
Free Domain:
FreeDomain.co.nr - Free Subdomain of .CO.NR domain name to those who wish to get a cool and free domain name, free subdomain or free short URL, that looks like a real paid domain name.
Com.co.in - You will get a virtual free domain name such as www.your-name.com.co.in and you can forward this to any of your existing website.
Co.cc - You can map a CO.CC domain to your blog or photo album. In order to use domain mapping, you must create and modify A, MX, NS and CNAME records. CO.CC supports free DNS services. This means that CO.CC gives you
control over the DNS records that describe your domain.
My two cents:
I prefer to buy my first year with Netfirms with a price of $5.95/yr because they are the cheapest price with free private registration but after a year I will transfer my account to 1and1 with NO additional domain transfer fee of $6.99/yr. With regards to the free domain those are just subdomain or redirect url, so SEO and Google pagerank wise? It’s not advisable to use it.
