How To: Install WordPress Manually

Don’t be afraid if you can’t install WordPress into your website. There are several ways to do it and manual installation of WordPress is one of them. No worries if you are not a tech savvy and doesn’t know the geek stuff on how to setup a database, file permission and FTP clients because I will help you out on how to do it.

Things you need before the WordPress Installation:

  • Make sure you already have Webhosting account.
  • Download the latest stable version of WordPress.
  • If you don’t use Firefox as your browser, I strongly recommend to download and install the program.
  • Download FireFTP, it will serve as your FTP Client.

Steps in installing WordPress

  1. Setup Database
    • Login to cPanel.
      • e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel

    Step 1: WordPress Install

    • Click on MySQL Databases.
    • Step 2: WordPress Install

    • Create New Database.
    • Step 3: WordPress Install

    • Create New User.
    • Step 4: WordPress Install

    • Connect your created new user to your new database.
    • Step 5: WordPress Install

    • Allow All Privileges to your newly setup database account
    • Step 6: WordPress Install

    • Your current Database should look like this.
    • Step 7: WordPress Install

  2. Edit wp-config.php.
    • Look for the file were you save your latest version of WordPress. Extract the zip file.
    • Step 8: WordPress Install

    • Inside the extracted folder (wordpress) open the filename wp-config-sample.php. Change the Highlighted keywords based on how you setup your database. *Once you are done save as.. the file to wp-config.php.
    • Step 9: WordPress Install

  3. Uploading WordPress files into your Web Server.
    • Open FireFox browser. Choose Tools > Click FireFTP.
    • WordPress Install | Step 10: Setup Database
    • Click Manage Account. Choose NewAccount Manager window opens.
        Account Name: - any name will do.
        Host: - yoursite.com
        Login: - ** FTP Username
        Password: - ** FTP Password
        ** ask your web host if you don’t know your FTP login account.
    • WordPress Install | Step 11: Setup Database

    • Select the account name > then click Connect.
    • Step 12: WordPress Install

    • On the left pane look for the path in your computer where you save the WP files, then hightlight all the files. On the right pane, click on the folder where you want to upload the files, most of the time select public_html folder. Then click the arrow point to right to transfer files. It usually take around 5-10mins.
    • Step 13: WordPress Install
  4. Final Installation of WordPress.
    • Open your Firefox. Type on the address bar, http://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php
    • Step 14: WordPress Install

    • Type your WordPress blog name and email address.
    • Step 15: WordPress Install

      Good job! You were able to Install your own WordPress Blog.
